Rebuilding Suitland High, Drew Freeman Middle, and Benjamin Stoddert Middle!

To the students, families, educators, and communities of District 7:

Earlier this year, the Board of Education passed a 25+ year plan to build, renovate, and modernize more than 160 of our 200+ schools. The Educational Facilities Master Plan (EMFP)'s first phase (2018-2023) has Suitland High School, Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, and Drew-Freeman Middle School slated for major renovations or full replacement.

Of the nearly 15 schools listed, and after tough decisions, Suitland High School is the next high school to get major renovations or a complete replacement. High Point High School, however, is extremely overcrowded and outdated. The chances that these two schools could shift in priority ranking are possible. With your help, we can make sure Suitland High School retains it's priority ranking!

Benjamin Stoddert Middle School (#11) and Drew Freeman Middle School (not ranked) are two of ten middle schools that are scheduled to be renovated or rebuilt. The areas of Suitland, Silver Hill, District Heights, Forestville, Temple Hills, and Hillcrest-Marlow Heights are served by these two middle schools. These areas have been asking, year after year, from school construction and it is about time we got it!

As the Board of Education Member representing these communities and these three schools, I continue to fight for school construction funding from the county and state to help us rebuild and renovate our aging schools. But I cannot do it alone...I need the community's voice! On Thursday, September 15th at 6:00pm, the Board of Education is hosting a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Public Hearing at the Sasscer Administration Building (14201 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772). Please come out and testify before the Board of Education about the strong need for these schools to be rebuilt and renovated!

In order to testify before the Board of Education, you must register before 3:30pm on September 15th by calling the Board of Education office at (301)-952-6115 and state that you are interested in testifying at the CIP Public Hearing. If you cannot make it to the CIP Public Hearing, you can submit your comments via email at: CIP@pgcps.org
