Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III Announces K. Alexander Wallace as District 7 Prince George’s County Board of Education Member
Upper Marlboro, MD — Today, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III announced the appointment of K. Alexander Wallace, a resident of Upper Marlboro, MD to the Board of Education representing District 7. Mr. Wallace will fill the vacancy which resulted from the recent resignation of former School Board Member Lyn Mundey. With this appointment, Wallace will serve out the remainder of Ms. Mundey’s term, which will expire in 2016.
According to Maryland House of Delegates Bill 1107, the education reform law for Prince George’s County, the County Executive is required to appoint a member to the Board of Education whenever a vacancy occurs. County Executive Baker conducted an open search to fill this vacancy which provided residents of District 7 with an opportunity to apply for the position. Since this vacancy was created as a result of an elected board member leaving office, the County Executive’s appointee must reside in the School Board district where there is a vacancy.
“I am excited to welcome K. Alexander Wallace to the Prince George’s County Board of Education to represent the citizens of District 7,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. “As a recent alumni of the Prince George’s County Public Schools, Alex can provide our Board of Education with a real working knowledge of our school system from the students’ perspective. His community and civic engagement is also very impressive and will be an asset in this position. I am confident that Alex will add leadership, stability, and passion to the Board of Education and that he will represent the residents of District 7 with honor and distinction.”
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve students, families and educators in District 7 and Prince George’s County Public Schools,” said Mr. Wallace. “I want to thank County Executive Baker for having confidence in me. I will work with our community of students, their families, and their teachers, fellow Board Members, Prince George’s County Public Schools CEO Dr. Kevin Maxwell, Prince George’s County Council members, as well as State of Maryland delegates and senators in pursuit of outstanding academic achievement for all Prince George’s County Public Schools students. The more we collaborate on this common goal, the more our children and County will prosper.”
“We look forward to working with Mr. Wallace. He is a remarkable young man who seems to have a good understanding of Prince George’s County Public Schools and the needs of its students, teachers and families. He is a true advocate for public education and for the academic success of all students,” said Board of Education Chairperson Dr. Segun Eubanks.
