It is with great honor that I announce that I have been appointed to serve as the Director of Governmental Affairs for the University System of Maryland (USM) - Student Council.

As the Director of Governmental Affairs, it is my duty to represent every single student enrolled in a USM institution in regards to state and federal educational policy proposals.

I will spend my time in both Annapolis and Washington, D.C. lobbying elected officials in regards to college affordability, accessibility, and quality.

For the next year, I will serve as the USM’s Chief Student Lobbyist and it is my mission to make sure we keep tuition increases low, make sure students are protected, both physically and virtually, and to bring the student perspective to federal and state educational policies.

For the past five years, in some way, I have been a dedicated advocate for higher education. My passion to this cause is simple: Dedication to Education leads to more students at Graduation.

Here in Maryland, our statewide university system is highly touted, but we can do better…we must do better! There is still a lot of work to be done in regards to the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act through Congress, securing state funds to advance the academic programs and facilities at all our USM institutions, and much more.

In closing, if you are a student (Undergraduate or Graduate) at one of the schools listed below, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have; I am here for you as your advocate!

Bowie State University; Coppin State University; Frostburg State University; Salisbury University; Towson University; University of Baltimore; University of Maryland - Baltimore, Baltimore County, College Park, Eastern Shore, University College, or Center for Environmental Science; Universities at Shady Grove; and University System of Maryland at Hagerstown.

Thank you to Zac McGee, a great friend and even greater servant leader, for allowing me to serve with you and the rest of the Executive Board of the USMSC. I am both humbled and grateful for this amazing opportunity to serve the almost 150,000 students who attend a USM school!
