PROTECTING
OUR ENVIRONMENT

In our state, we have one of nature’s most abundant resources - the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, the largest in our nation. While the Bay’s watershed geographically divides our state into two parts, the protection and clean up of the Bay should not politically divide us. Much of our state’s commerce is anchored by the environmental vibrancy of the Bay and we must do everything in our power to clear pollution and dead zones.

In alignment with our nation’s ambitious goals for a greener, cleaner environmental infrastructure, our state must aggressively aim for a zero emissions future through our new and refurbishing construction projects and the expansion of our electric vehicle charging grid.

Like many in my community, I am frustrated with the constant lack of maintenance of our roads and highways. From weeds that have grown so vast that they have become small trees that hinder drivers’ abilities to see traffic to the build up of trash and debris in our median strips that block drainage ways and vehicular damage, it is clear that meaningful action has to be taken.

Commitment: Noting that the rivers in our communities are a part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, I will ensure that the Governor’s Council on the Chesapeake Bay regularly meets with our local government and state delegation to discuss the environmental resilience of the waterways in our county, namely the Anacostia and Patuxent Rivers. I will support the current efforts of our state delegation to hold the State Highway Administration accountable for the maintenance and beautification of our state highways and will seek the necessary support to make sure our roads and highways are upkept properly. Through our state’s Capital Budget, I will advocate for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations at all Motor Vehicle Administration branches and State Police barracks.
