Growing our economy

Our economy is only as strong as its workforce and, right now, there are major gaps to fill and I believe that there is a role for the government to play in ensuring that our industries are supported. From world-renowned healthcare systems and, both, public and private cybersecurity agencies and companies to our state’s watermen and farmers and technological innovation hub, our state should be proud of the diversity of our economy.

Accompanying this diverse economy should be a diverse workforce that is well trained, fairly compensated, and afforded basic worker’s rights such as paid family and medical leave, living wages, and the right to collective associate and bargain.

Commitment: I will support the advancement of a statewide living wage and the successful administration of our state’s recent Paid Family and Medical Leave Act. I will sponsor legislation that equitably supports individuals from marginalized backgrounds who seek training, education, or credentialing to join the workforce sectors that have struggled to employ a diverse workforce. I pledge to support Maryland’s local, small, and minority businesses through the adoption of a joint statewide Department of Commerce and Department of Labor campaign initiative - Made in Maryland!
